San Francisco 2.0

Ran across that... and by ran I mean stopped occasionally because I was so out of breath. Running solo is hard. People running with me give me motivation to push myself harder. Wish I had someone there with me. It was wild getting there. I took a cab there which cost $25 and then when I didn't feel like shelling out another $25 to make an even $50 to get back to my hotel, I just got on a bus and somehow made it back without ever looking at a map... Although the friendly advice of the bus operator was appreciated.

4.00 miles

Harder, better, faster, stronger...

I certainly don't feel like any of those adjectives apply to me.

Why is it that the worst part of the run is getting to the halfway point? Its like, I feel so tired, I just want to get to that spot where I can turn around and every step brings me closer to my goal. The actual process of running is still so miserable. I think to myself, after Broad Street, I'm done... (this is my thought process while I run) After I run I feel good, I am so proud of myself, especially when I go further than I previously had gone. I think to myself, after broad street, I need to set another goal. I need to keep training because ultimately as much as I hate the discipline and displeasure of forcing myself out to run, I need it.

Been listening to Tim Keller while I run... An interesting companion to bring along with me on such a quest... But, I enjoy the idea of stimulating my brain while I workout.

2.01 miles part duex

Ran 2 again today... Man, I am beat. Ran it with Eric Deboer and Ashley Hoogeveen. We ran from my place down to the Parkway and then back up, jolted up the museum steps and then back down. After which I started getting tight. I came home, iced my calfs and did a double shot of Aleve! I love how tired I feel. I'm gonna sleep like a champ tonight.

2.01 miles

So, I actually took a break on Monday from some core workout to give my body a little extra rest. And I think it really paid off. I ran with my friend Dan Eun tonight and it was a great run. Only two miles but I kept pace the whole time! Breathing felt good. I probably could have kept going too. towards the end I started to cramp... still trying to figure that one out. Today for lunch I ate chicken and rice drank about 50 oz of water and had a banana. Going to try this new-fangled technique of eating healthy foods before a long run.

It's supposed to be gorgeous out tomorrow afternoon so I'm hoping to rush home and sneak in another two-miler, Rest Thursday, do some core Friday and then Run 4 miles on Saturday.

Looking forward to running with everyone!

3.47

Ran with the group on Saturday, was cold and started out rainy. But the weather got fairer as we ran. Unfortunately my stamina did not. I had a terrible run on Saturday! after about a mile in, I was fatigued. It is such a mental downer to me. It's like, I've been putting in the time the last 3 weeks and I'm not seeing improvement as fast as I want to see it! I guess that speaks more to the nature of me... That I'm an instant results person and I am learning what delayed gratification looks like. It means I have to sacrifice not only time and energy but it means that I have to give up certain food I want now in order for my body to be at it's healthiest and better utilize nutrients.

I don't mean to go on a diatribe about my personal habits but I guess running is teaching me perseverance because IT IS NOT FUN RIGHT NOW.

(please feel free to tell me good stuff to eat because I am oblivious, or how I should be regimenting what I eat)

2 miles

Props to John Kopp for running with me last night.

It was bad. No cramps this time, just fatigue. I wasn't feeling it and neither was my body. I probably didn't stretch as well as I should have after the run either. It's run's like this one that make me want to walk away and never do it again. It wasn't exciting and it was discouraging because I did less than what I usually do and to top it all off, I didn't run as fast as I have in the past.

Also, I prefer running when the temperature is in the 40's-50's because it's easy to regulate my body temperature. How bad is it going to be when May rolls around and it's suddenly 80ยบ and Humid?

trying to push out this discouraging thoughts.

Investment

I bought these today to help with the shins and hopefully help recover my calfs. I figure the more I invest in something, the more I'll stay committed to it... So it seems a worthwhile purchase.
